I love the heat of summer time but avoid a heat stroke I have to keep my hair out of the way!
If your 4-type hair is like mine, it can be nearly impossible to slick down your hair without it looking plain greasy. Here’s some quick tips on how I achieve the perfect edges and ponytails!
Start with freshly washed hair. – A fresh wash helps the hair lay down. If your hair is pliable then you’ll need less product.
Use your favorite moisturizer. – To protect my hair in ponytails I use Jamaican Castor Oil. The style might be used for days so I make sure this style doesn’t lead to breakage.
Grab Your Pomade or Gel – Stop everything you’re doing and pick up Murry’s Edge Wax! It lays 4-type hair. It provides a hold that isn’t hard and my edges don’t look greasy & fizzy after one hour.
Create The Ponytail – Pick a spot on your head and make a ponytail. By creating two loose braids my thick hair goes into a ponytail more easily.
Tie Your Hair Down With a Leg of a Stocking – Silk scarfs aren’t going to cut it. Grab some old stockings, cut a leg of it off and tie it around your head = LAID.
Wrap ponytail with Hair Extensions (optional)- For the perfect Phony Pony I used Haute Kinky Hair – Haute Curls. I wrapped the hair extensions around my ponytail without taking out my braids. I also wrapped the hair extensions around the base of my ponytail to hide the tracks.

Another natural hair brand…Is it any good? My answer: YES!
I loved this hair and I recommend it to anyone looking for a natural look!
- It’s Low Maintenance – The curl pattern doesn’t need a lot of products to make it look good. All I used was the steam from the shower to revive my curl pattern.
- The Texture is Soft and Manageable – I hate when hair gets hard! Even after weeks of wear, Kinkistry Hair stayed soft. There was absolutely NO tangling and it had minimal shedding.
- It Has Lasting Power – There was no hardening of the curl texture, no matting and little maintenance needed for revive the curl pattern. Those factors spoke volumes to me about the longevity of Kinkistry Hair Extensions. If you’re not constantly putting your hands in your hair, it’s going to last!
I’m wearing three bundles of Kinkistry Koilistics Extensions in 22”, 24”, 24”.
I used Eco-Gel and Jamaican Castor Oil for my two-strand leave out. It worked to perfection!
Use Code ‘WWHISPER10‘ for 10% off of your purchase of Kinkistry Hair! If you buy Kinkistry Hair tag me on Instagram so I can show you some LOVE!
I was given Kinkistry hair for free, however all the opinions are mine.
1. If They’re Rude…LEAVE the store
Too many times, the African American community’s insecurities are capitalized on without any respect for the Black dollar. We all know that many people of color purchase weave . I suggest only buying products from a place that respects your buying power!
2. Ask Them to Take the Hair Out of the Package.
You need to feel how the hair flows through your fingers. Can you easily run your fingers from root to tip? Does it tangle when you shake it? If the hair doesn’t flow theres a chance the cuticles are running in different directions, thus limiting the shelf life of the hair extensions. You’ll probably get a good 2.5 weeks out of it at most. Also, if it tangles just from shaking it, you can only imagine what it going to do on the back of your head.
3. Find Natural Light to View the Hair
Hair stores have horrible lighting. The fluorescent lighting makes the hair look a different color when it would seem in the sunlight. I suggest holding the hair up to a window or somewhere that you can see the hair exactly how it is. Hair stores seldom have a return policy so check everything before buying.
4. Check Online First
Have an idea of what you want to buy before you go to the store and head online to check the prices. If you check the online prices you’ll be able to see if the price in the store is worth it.
I have the skinny on the best wigs and weaves in the industry. So don’t forget to check me out! You can also email me at TheWeaveWhisperer@gmail.com with questions. Just add the word QUESTION to the subject header and I’ll respond as soon as possible.
“Rock that groovy dye dashiki/ Nefertiti, edges kinky/ Sweatin’ out my blow out/ Sweatin’ out my press/ This trick about to go off/Mad cause I’m so fresh”
Straight hair stresses me out, period! If I decide to press my natural curls, kinks and coils out, I need to preserve the press. Because I’m not putting heat on it over and over again!
I noticed sometimes when I wrap my hair at night, I wake up with kinky, curly edges!

My wig from Double Leaf Wigs is a lifesaver.I usually sew the wig down or secure with bobby pins so that wig doesn’t fall off.
To save time from blending the lace, I put on a cute turban or beanie. Even if I take off the turban/beanie, my wig still looks decent. So, it’s a win-win!
My Sade Ponytail
Hands down is my favorite go-to hairstyle! It’s gives all face and lets your hair breathe! For added volume I use Hairfleek

You either have to wash it and start all over or turn it into a entirely new style. If your a busy woman like I am, you probably would rather turn it into a quick style that’s presentable.
That’s where this handy tutorial comes into play! In 10 minutes you can change your fro into my a sexy, stylish two-strand twist bun.

I LOVE the hot sun and a beach! I don’t dream of using flat irons on my hair while on vacation.I needed a hairstyle to get me through Virginia Beach and Negril, Jamaica! Snatched up edges, bumps around the hairline and weave are some of the things I hate seeing on children. Because I love seeing children look like children, I called upon my sidekicks Shonda and Mi’yah Mor to help the masses continue to keep their children looking like children with healthy scalps and hair follicle…but never ever dropping the stank!
1) Most styles done on a child’s head should be done with care without much too tension. One of my favorite styles for children is the ‘Fro!
Complete with or without a headband, the ‘fro is an excellent way to allow your babies edges to grow! I love Blue Ivy’s ‘fro and you can tell by her hairline that Beyonce isn’t pulling or tugging that precious lamb’s hairline.
-Leave In Conditioner (Mixed Chicks Leave In , Kinky Curly Knot Today)
-Wide tooth comb
– Headband (Optional) Continue reading How To: Child Hair Care
